The Department of Facilities Operations provides the following services to the campus community: Building Engineering, Custodial Services, Grounds, Maintenance Trades and Pest Control Services.
The Service Center is the primary point of contact for all Facilities Operations service requests.
Building Coordinators should relay requests for maintenance and repair work to Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) through the Service Center, by phone (313) 577-4315, or by mail - 5454 Cass. Non-emergency requests for building maintenance can be submitted to the Service Center via http://workorder.facilities.wayne.edu. The Service Center will generate a routine maintenance work order. Reimbursable work requiring an estimate should be submitted via the iServices Desk. Hours of operation are from 7:00AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
It is preferred that building occupants process requests through their Building Coordinator so that duplication is avoided and follow-up is facilitated. Once the Building Coordinator has contacted the Service Center, a Building Engineer, or other maintenance staff member, will contact the Building Coordinator if they need additional information or if other assistance is required.
The primary function of the Building Engineer is the operation and maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and mechanical equipment as well as utilities that serve building systems such as water, steam, natural gas, and electricity. The Service Center will request that the Building Engineer or an appropriate maintenance Trades person investigate all other requests pertaining to the building infrastructure.
Trade Team Leaders process routine work orders. These include electrical, plumbing, carpentry and painting work order requests. Problems reported to the Service Center will be handled as soon as possible; however, emergencies and backlog of maintenance work will effect response time.
For emergency situations such as electrical failures, floods, severe temperature problems, or roof leaks, call 577-4315 IMMEDIATELY.
After regular hours and on weekends, emergencies are handled through the Public Safety Department (577-2222), where a person is always on duty. Public Safety will contact Operations immediately to follow up on the request.
